Vicki Grant, Cub Reporter

Vicki Grant Chronicle Herald Young Adult AuthorI’ve got a new gig.

In addition to working on a mystery set in wartime Halifax, I’m writing a weekly column for The Chronicle Herald.

Called “Creative Catalysts”, it looks at people or organizations who make Halifax a culturally interesting place to live. So far I’ve interviewed a plastic surgeon with a passion for visual art, a choir leader who welcomes the tone-deaf and a member of the local literati who charmed a famous author into singing her “Happy Birthday”.

For next Tuesday’s column, I’ll be talking with the force behind In the Dead of Winter Music Festival.

After that? I hope to track down a mover-and-shaker in the local stand-up scene.

About vickigrant

I am an author of many Young Adult novels including Betsy Wickwire's Dirty Secret, Pigboy, Quid pro Quo, Dead-End Job and 2011 Red Maple Winner, Not Suitable for Family Viewing. Most of my books are funny and/or scary mysteries. I also write high-low quick reads for reluctant readers. Quid pro Quo won the Arthur Ellis Award for Best Juvenile Crime novel and was also nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award. Betsy Wickwire is up for a 2012 Snow Willow Award. Keep your fingers crossed for her!

  1. Hi Vicki,
I was looking for the title of your next book which is how I found this blog. Is Betsy Wickwire your latest or are you working on another title? Anything coming out in 2012? I work at Halifax Public Libraries (another hat) and am looking for new titles for our Teen Blog.
    Cindy :-)

Hi, Cindy – Betsy Wickwire is my latest full-length novel. My latest quick read is “Hold the Pickles”, an Orca Currents. As for what’s coming next, I’m working on a mystery set in Halifax during the Second World War. Or, at least, I should be…

      • A mystery set in Halifax during the second world war…very interesting. I love historical fiction. Is it okay if I use your comments on our teen blog?
Here at the library, we offer Lest We Forget workshops to teens which delve into the actual records of First World War local soldiers and nursing sisters. Really helps understand the files and the lives of those serving in the war. There are workshops in the fall for adults too if you are interested. Wrong war, I know, but the files and experiences were similar.

    Absolutely, Cindy. Spread the word!
